The Pomodoro Technique: Maximize Your Productivity
Learn how this simple time management method can transform your study sessions.
The Pomodoro Technique is one of the simplest productivity methods ever devised: work in focused 25-minute intervals separated by short breaks. Its power comes from making focus a habit with a clear start and end.
How it works
- Choose one task and set a timer for 25 minutes
- Work on only that task until the timer rings
- Take a 5-minute break — stand up, look away from the screen
- After four intervals, take a longer 15-30 minute break
Why it works for studying
Short, bounded sessions lower the activation energy to start, and the breaks prevent the slow attention decay that makes hour three of a cram session nearly worthless. The timer also makes distractions visible: if you reach for your phone mid-interval, you notice.
Adapt it to you
The 25/5 split is a default, not a rule. Deep-work tasks may suit 50/10; quick review may suit 15/3. Keep the principle — single-tasking in timed blocks with real breaks — and tune the numbers.
